Phoenix Rising

A theatrical mezcal cocktail that embodies Leo's fire element through smoke and spice, rising from ashes like the mythical phoenix. The combination of mezcal's inherent smokiness with Yellow Chartreuse creates an otherworldly experience befitting Leo's dramatic nature.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz mezcal (preferably espadin)

  • 0.5 oz Yellow Chartreuse

  • 1 oz fresh pineapple juice

  • 0.75 oz fresh lime juice

  • 0.25 oz jalapeño simple syrup*

  • Chili powder for rim

  • Lime wheel and jalapeño slice for garnish

Jalapeño Simple Syrup:

  • 1 cup sugar

  • 1 cup water

  • 2 jalapeño peppers, sliced (seeds removed for less heat)

Instructions

  1. Prepare jalapeño syrup: Combine sugar, water, and sliced jalapeños in a saucepan. Simmer for 15 minutes, let cool completely, strain, and bottle.

  2. Rim a rocks glass with chili powder and fill with fresh ice.

  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, pineapple juice, lime juice, and jalapeño syrup.

  4. Add ice and shake vigorously for 15 seconds.

  5. Double strain into the prepared glass.

  6. Garnish with a lime wheel and jalapeño slice.

Notes

  • Remove jalapeño seeds for milder heat

  • Yellow Chartreuse adds herbal complexity

  • Jalapeño syrup keeps refrigerated for up to 2 weeks

  • Adjust spice level by varying syrup amount
