A warming, transformative cocktail that combines the richness of aged tequila with the vibrant notes of blood orange and ginger. The addition of hot black tea creates a comforting warmth, while star anise adds mystical depth. This cocktail evolves as it changes temperature, revealing new layers of complexity with each sip.
Ingredients
1.5 oz reposado tequila
1 oz fresh blood orange juice
0.5 oz ginger liqueur
0.5 oz Cocchi Americano
3 drops star anise tincture*
2 oz hot black tea (English Breakfast or similar)
Gold dust for garnish
Blood orange wheel for garnish
*Star Anise Tincture:
5 whole star anise pods
4 oz high-proof neutral spirit
Let infuse for 3 days, strain
Instructions
In a tempered glass or small metal mixing vessel, combine reposado tequila, blood orange juice, ginger liqueur, and Cocchi Americano.
Add star anise tincture and stir briefly to combine.
Heat a heat-resistant goblet or glass with hot water, then empty.
Add the cocktail mixture to the warmed glass.
Slowly top with hot black tea, creating a layered effect.
Dust the surface with edible gold powder.
Garnish with a gold-dusted dehydrated blood orange wheel.
