Witch’s Warmth

A warming, transformative cocktail that combines the richness of aged tequila with the vibrant notes of blood orange and ginger. The addition of hot black tea creates a comforting warmth, while star anise adds mystical depth. This cocktail evolves as it changes temperature, revealing new layers of complexity with each sip.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 oz reposado tequila

  • 1 oz fresh blood orange juice

  • 0.5 oz ginger liqueur

  • 0.5 oz Cocchi Americano

  • 3 drops star anise tincture*

  • 2 oz hot black tea (English Breakfast or similar)

  • Gold dust for garnish

  • Blood orange wheel for garnish

*Star Anise Tincture:

  • 5 whole star anise pods

  • 4 oz high-proof neutral spirit

  • Let infuse for 3 days, strain

Instructions

  1. In a tempered glass or small metal mixing vessel, combine reposado tequila, blood orange juice, ginger liqueur, and Cocchi Americano.

  2. Add star anise tincture and stir briefly to combine.

  3. Heat a heat-resistant goblet or glass with hot water, then empty.

  4. Add the cocktail mixture to the warmed glass.

  5. Slowly top with hot black tea, creating a layered effect.

  6. Dust the surface with edible gold powder.

  7. Garnish with a gold-dusted dehydrated blood orange wheel.

Notes

  • Star anise tincture will keep indefinitely

  • Use freshly brewed hot tea for best results

  • Temperature is crucial - ensure glass is properly warmed

  • Best served in a heat-resistant goblet or tempered glass
