Jupiter’s Nightcap

A sophisticated nightcap that marries aged cognac with house-made spiced pomegranate syrup. Deep amber in color, this stirred cocktail is garnished with an expressed orange twist and cinnamon stick, creating an aromatic experience that evolves as you sip. The perfect contemplative winter serve.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Cognac

  • .5 oz Spiced Pomegranate Syrup*

  • 2 dashes Orange Bitters

  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • Cinnamon Stick (for garnish)

  • Orange Twist (for garnish)

Tools

  • Mixing Glass

  • Bar Spoon

  • Julep Strainer

  • Jigger

  • Nick & Nora Glass

  • Peeler/Sharp Knife

Instructions

  1. Add all liquid ingredients to a mixing glass

  2. Add ice and stir for 45 seconds until well-chilled

  3. Strain into chilled Nick & Nora glass

  4. Express orange peel over drink and garnish with twist and cinnamon stick

  5. Place cinnamon stick at 1 o'clock position, drape orange twist over

Spiced Pomegranate Syrup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Pomegranate Juice

  • 2 cups Sugar

  • 3 Cinnamon Sticks

  • 3 Star Anise Pods

Instructions

  1. Combine pomegranate juice and sugar in a saucepan

  2. Add cinnamon sticks and star anise

  3. Bring to simmer and cook for 15 minutes

  4. Remove from heat and let steep for 30 minutes

  5. Strain, bottle, and refrigerate

  6. Keeps for up to 2 weeks when refrigerated

Notes

  • Use fresh pomegranate juice if possible

  • For best results, chill your Nick & Nora glass before serving

  • Express the orange peel well to release essential oils

  • The syrup can be made in advance and stored refrigerated
